MED
What is wilderness medicine?
"The provision of resource-limted care under austere conditions."
- N. Stuart Harris

To that definition we add a foundation in the physiology that exists between humans and their natural environment. Just like emergency medicine, wilderness medicine encompasses portions of many other subspecialties. In the RAW MED fellowship, we bring together toxicology, prehospital medicine, research, hyperbaric medicine, global health, sports medicine, and even ultrasound.
We believe in a practical, not theoretical, approach. Wilderness medicine is not a table-top exercise. Our fellows are engaged in the community and the practice of outdoor medicine.

Real Rescue Training
The RAW MED fellowship is designed to provide hands-on experiences within austere rescue as a responding physician on both dive and wilderness rescue teams locally and regionally.
Real Wilderness Exposure
Formed around several field opportunities, the fellow will be able to hone their clinical skillsets within wilderness medicine.
We Build Austere Medicine Physicians
At the Rescue and Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at Prisma Health, our vision is to create fellows who excel in both academic and practical aspects of wilderness medicine. A focus on rescue techniques will prepare the fellow to apply their knowledge to real-life environments.
We build austere medicine physicians, but we also build community. For a fellowship that shapes careers, choose RAW MED.
